“Te Deum” by Anton Bruckner, masterfully arranged by Andreas Simbeni for soloists, choir and symphonic wind orchestra, is an extraordinary new interpretation of one of Bruckner’s most important sacred works. This arrangement respects the profound structure and spiritual character of the original, while utilizing the rich sound world of a symphonic wind orchestra to open up a new dimension of musical expressiveness.
Composed at a time when Bruckner was working on both his 6. as well as 7th Symphony, the “Te Deum” is characterized by its conciseness and intense emotional power. Simbeni’s arrangement emphasizes the dramatic intensity and solemn mood of the work and offers the soloists and choir the opportunity to unfold in a powerful dialogue with the wind orchestra.
The premiere of the “Te Deum” in Vienna in 1885 was a significant moment in Bruckner’s career, and this new edition for symphonic wind orchestra continues this tradition by creating an impressive musical experience that captivates the listener. Perfect for concerts and ceremonial occasions, this arrangement is an excellent addition to any orchestra looking for a work that offers both challenge and inspiration.
This shortened version has been transposed a whole tone lower to make it a little easier for the wind orchestra and ranges from the whole Te Deum laudamus to the last 17 bars of In Te, Domine speravi.
The work in “arch form” is divided into five parts:
- Te Deum laudamus – Allegro, Solemn, with power, C major
- Te ergo quaesumus – Moderato, F minor
- Aeterna fac – Allegro, Solemn, with power, D minor
- Salvum fac populum tuum – Moderato, F major
- In Te, Domine speravi – Moderately moved, C major
